Important Notice: Trojan Prox Rex Voluntary Recall

Trojan Prox Rex

As you may be aware, Trojan issued a voluntary recall on the **Prox Rex exit button** as it was found that an external device could compromise the unit allowing someone to unlock a door within 1.5M of it.

This recall applies to units sold between **July 2021 and October 2025** and have **V9.8** on the back of the unit. It should be noted that all Prox Rex units sold have the same vulnerability however only V9.8 are part of the supplier's recall. Unfortunately, the only way of determining the version number of each unit, is to undertake a physical inspection and it's also likely that Vision can only provide numbers of units installed at clients premises since February 2022 i.e. we have no record of version numbers. Clients should also be noted that the unit itself isn't faulty.

The recall will consist of a **full replacement** on units sold in the past 12-months (new units supplied) and a **firmware upgrade path** for those sold between July 2021 and October 2024 (units will be replaced with serviced units with upgraded firmware).

Risk Assessment

Clients should understand that the vulnerability is a serious risk and, following intensive media interest in this matter, further risk has been created as people now have the education to be able to compromise systems. At the very least, external doors should be checked and upgraded as required.

Available Options under the Voluntary Recall

Clients have the following options available to them under the voluntary recall:

  • Wait until the next planned preventative maintenance inspection is undertaken and upgrade any applicable units at that time.
  • Schedule a service call at a more immediate time that suits and upgrade any applicable units i.e. outside the normal PPM run.
  • Seek advice as to whether their system can be programmed to create alarms should a Prox Rex be activated when an alarm is set.

The offer from Trojan extends to the cost of the unit itself and, as such, there would be a charge for the **labour** to undertake any of these works. As indicated earlier, this is a voluntary recall and the units are not faulty.

A further option is to replace the capacitance type Prox Rex unit with a **physical exit button** to eliminate any future risk of external interference in the device. The full costs of materials and labour would be applicable under this option.

Please either reach out to your **account manager** or send an email to:
